Welcome to the Story of The Merc

Where History Meets Heart

About the Author

The Reverend Dr. John Bruington

The Reverend Dr. John Bruington, affectionately known as Brother John, is a lifelong servant of faith and the American West. Holding a B.A., Master’s, and Doctorate, he has dedicated over 35 years to pastoral ministry across Montana, Wyoming, South Dakota, Colorado, Indiana, and back in Montana. During  ministry, he worked as a cowhand in the Bear Paw Mountains, shaping his down-to-earth approach to life, faith, and storytelling. Brother John has authored the weekly Christian cowboy column “Out Our Way: Theology Under Saddle”, blending rugged Western life with spiritual reflection. His writing resonates with readers seeking authenticity, grit, and grace—reminding us that faith and wisdom are often found outside the church, in the dust and beauty of everyday life.

Where History Meets Heart

Behind the Scenes of The Merc

Writing The Merc required immersing myself in historical archives, family records, and oral histories from Montana’s Browning community. Understanding the lives of early traders and Native American interactions allowed me to craft a story grounded in truth yet rich with storytelling flair.

Lessons from the Frontier

Joe’s journey reminds us that integrity, persistence, and respect for others are timeless lessons. Whether navigating business, faith, or personal growth, the resilience of the past offers inspiration for today’s challenges.
